Convergence of Science and Diplomacy : Future direction of Science & Technology Diplomacy in Korea		 Crystal Hall E
Transnational and convergent issues of today raise a fundamental global challenge to our diplomacy and global governance. Therefore, the role of Science&Technology Diplomacy utilizing advanced science technologies such as artificial intelligence(AI), Blockchain, and Quantum Computing are being emphasized on a global scale.
Climate change and non-traditional security issues cannot be addressed with traditional governance and diplomatic procedures. Given this, response to such issues through sharing and applying scientific technology knowledge is required much more than ever before.
In this session, we will look at global trends on the Science&Technology Diplomacy and discuss future direction of Korea’s Science&Technology Diplomacy. To this end, Director-General for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs who is coordinating the Science&Technology Diplomacy at the forefront of diplomacy will moderate this session inviting relevant government officials, prominent scholars, experts and participants.

최근 초국경적·융복합적 이슈는 우리의 외교정책과 거버넌스에 매우 큰 도전이 되고 있으며, 이를 대응하기 위한 인공지능(AI), 블록체인, 양자컴퓨팅 등 첨단과학기술을 활용한 과학기술외교의 역할이 세계적으로 더욱 강조되고 있다.
예컨대 기후변화, 비전통안보 등의 이슈는 전통적 거버넌스와 외교절차로는 대응할 수는 없으며, 이에 따라, 과학기술 지식의 공유와 적용을 통한 대응이 그 어느 때보다도 중요한 시기이다.
이 세션에서는 전 세계 과학기술외교 전략 트렌드를 살펴보고, 향후 우리나라의 과학기술외교 추진 방향을 논의해보기 위해 외교 최전선에서 과학기술외교 실무 총괄 역할을 수행하고 있는 외교부 기후환경과학외교국장의 사회로 국내외 정부, 학자, 전문가 및 관계자 등을 초청하여 다층적 관점에서 다루고자 한다.
