[Jeju Special Self-Governing Province/Korea Institute for National Unification 제주특별자치도/통일연구원] Recently, there have been rapidly unfolding movements toward addressing Korean Peninsula issues, such as North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Olympics, its announcement for possible denuclearization, the 3rd inter-Korean summit, and the US-North Korea summit. What is distinct from the past this time is that a series of recent development saim for fundamental resolution of Korean Peninsula issues, including pursuit of denuclearization and the establishment of a peace regime. And in the process, the unification process will accelerate accordingly. Such change is important because it marks the arrival of the new peace paradigm on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. What is important is that the new peace paradigm on the Korean peninsula should not only be sought by the government and the state alone. Such pursuit should be accompanied by corresponding changes and efforts from civil society as a whole. This session aims to explore the role of civil society in building a new peace paradigm on the Korean peninsula. 북한의 평창올림픽 참가와 비핵화의지 표명, 3차 남북정상회담과 북미정상회담 등 한반도문제 해결을 위한 움직임이 가속화하고 있다. 과거와 달리 비핵화와 평화체제 구축 등 한반도 문제의 본질적 해결을 지향하고 있다는 점에서 특징이 있으며, 이에 따라 통일 프로세스 역시 가속화될 것이다. 이 같은 변화는 한반도와 동북아의 신 평화패러다임의 도래를 의미한다는 점에서 중요성이 있다. 중요한 것은 한반도 신 평화패러다임이 정부와 국가의 영역에서만 진행될 경우 한계가 있으며, 시민사회의 영역에서 상응하는 변화와 노력을 수반해야 된다는 점이다. 한반도 신 평화패러다임 구축을 위한 시민사회의 역할을 모색하는 것이 본 세션의 기획의도이다.
