1996년 <우리민족서로돕기운동>의 창립때부터 함께한 강영식 사무총장은 지난 2008년부터 <우리민족서로돕기운동>의 사무총장으로 재직하고 있다.
강영식 총장은 그간 다양한 정부, 비정부 기관의 자문역으로 활동해 왔다. 특히 2017년에는 통일부 정책혁신위원으로 활동하였고, 현재 통일부 정책자문위원을 맡고 있다.
그는 2012년부터 13년까지 56개 대북지원 단체들의 연합체인 대북협력민간단체협의회(북민협)의 운영위원장을, 2016년부터 17년까지는 정책위원장을 역임하였으며 현재는 농림축산분과 위원장으로 활동하고 있다. 1998년부터 현재까지 150여회 북한(개성, 금강산 제외)을 방문한 그는 지난 해 11월, 남북교류협력 분야에서의 그간의 공로를 인정받아 국민훈장 동백장을 수훈하였다.

Mr. Kang Youngsik joined the Korean Sharing Movement as a founding member, and has been working as the Secretary-General since 2008.
Mr. Kang has advised various governmental and non-governmental organizations. He served as a member of Policy Innovation Committee of the Ministry of Unification(MoU) in 2017, and he is currently serving as a Policy Advisor of the MoU.
From 2012 to 2013 He was the Chairman of Operating Committee of Korea NGO Council for Cooperation with North Korea(KNCCK), an association of NGOs providing assistance to North Korea, and the Chairman of Policy Committee from 2016 to 2017. He is currently serving as the Chairman of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Working Group of the Council.
Since 1998 he has visited North Korea more than 150 times. Last November, Mr. Kang was awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Camellia Medal, for his efforts to promote inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation.
