Despite no progress in resolving the North Korean nuclear quagmire since the Hanoi setback in February 2019, the new US administration offers the hope of a possible negotiated settlement. This expert panel will focus on outlining the new Biden administration’s DPRK policy and the future of US- DPRK relations.

Fundamental questions on the past and present US administration's ability to make progress will be addressed, including through the management of the North Korean problem through maximum pressure and deterrence, simultaneous pursuit of denuclearization and the human rights agenda, the crime and punishment approach, and the chronic intelligence failure on North Korea.


2019년 2월 하노이 결렬 이후, 북핵문제 해결에는 어느진전이 없었지만 새롭게 출범한 바이든 행정부는 창의적외교를 통한 협상 타결의 희망을 나타내고 있 다. 본 전문가 세션은 새정부의 대북정책과 북미관계의 미래를 논하는 데 초점을 둔다.

과거와 현재 미 행정부의 진전 능력에 대한 근본적 인 의문점은 최대한의 압박과 제재를 통한 북한 문제 의 관리, 비핵화와 인권 개선의 동시 추구, 무력 중심의 범죄와 처벌의 접근, 북한에 대한 계속되는 정보 실패 문제를 검토하며 다루어진다.
