Reconstructing Korea-Japan Relations for Sustainable Peace in East Asia		 Crystal Hall D
With the historical conflict between Korea and Japan becoming the new normal, the 1965 system is now at a crossroads. Amid efforts to reconstruct bilateral relations, Korea and Japan are facing a critical juncture to choose whether to refine or fundamentally revise the 1965 system.
At the same time, efforts to reestablish Korea-Japan relations is needed to run parallel with the peace building attempts at overcoming the division of the Korean peninsula and US-China rivalry.
This session will explore ways to reconstruct the relationship between Korea and Japan that has been on a downward spiral due to historical issues, from the perspective of building sustainable peace in East Asia. Renowned experts from Korea and Japan will be invited to discuss the common norms, values and cooperation agenda the two countries should advance in the years ahead to foster reconciliation through peacemaking efforts.

한일 간의 과거사 갈등이 양국 관계의 뉴노멀로 자리잡으면서, 1965년 체제는 기로에 서게 되었다. 양국 관계를 재구축하기 위해, 한일은 1965년 체제를 지속하되 보완할 것인지 아니면 근본적인 수정을 할 것인지 선택해야 하는 시기를 맞고 있다.
이와 동시에 한일 관계의 재구축은, 남북 분단을 극복하고 미중 경쟁을 완화하는 동아시아의 평화 구축 작업과 같이 진행되어야 할 것이다.
이 세션에서는, 동아시아의 지속 가능한 평화라는 관점에서 과거사 갈등으로 인해 악화일로를 걷고 있는 한일 관계의 재구축 방안을 모색한다. 한일의 전문가들이 평화를 통한 화해를 위해 양국이 추구해야 할 공통의 규범과 가치, 협력과제에 대해 논의한다.
