[Jeju Free International City Development Center / 제주국제자유도시개발센터] Jeju, an island of peace, has served as a global forum for dialogue on promoting peace and multilateral exchanges in northeast Asia and solving common problems shared by human beings. Jeju has recently set a good example of bringing regional peace when it has successfully came to terms with its somber 4·3 tragedy. Now it is time to think about the role of Jeju in dealing with the foregone inequality and violence in Asia at the times of the imperialism and cold. Discussion will be also made about the potential role of Jeju in leading inter-Korean exchanges and possibility of attracting an Asia’s court of human rights. 세계평화의 섬 제주는 대내외적으로 동북아의 다자간 평화교류 및 국제 분쟁과 갈등 그리고 인류 공동의 문제를 해결하기 위한 논의의 장이 되어 왔으며, 최근에 는 제주 4·3의 아픈 과거사를 현명하게 청산하는 모범 적 사례를 통해 아시아의 인권과 평화를 선도하고 있다. 과거 아시아 지역의 제국주의, 냉전체제로 인한 국가와 개인 간의 불평등한 구조와 폭력의 역사를 청산 하고 상호 평등 및 신뢰관계 회복을 위한 구심점으로 서의 ‘제주’의 역할을 짚어보고 한 발 더 나아가 남북 교류사업의 선제적 추진과 아시아 인권재판소의 제주 설치 가능성에 대해 논의해보고자 한다.
