[Jeju 4.3 Research Institute 제주4.3연구소] Tragic events in the 20th century such as the division of the Korean peninsula and the Jeju 4·3 Incident produced countless marginalized lives. The marginal man, including the Zainichi Koreans, has been symbolized in the language of prejudice, discrimination, and painful history. The times after the 70th anniversary of the 4·3 Incident call for the need to overcome the era of tragedy and to deconstruct the concept and boundaries of the nation. A boundary is now understood as a concept that transcends language, nation-state, race, and culture, and we have reached at a historic moment to discuss the peaceful coexistence in East Asia beyond the boundaries. What forms of boundaries have been created by the 4·3 Incident, and what does it mean to say that we will cross the boundaries? What does it mean to cross the boundaries in studying the 4·3 Incident? Under the topic of <4·3 beyond the Boundaries>, the 4·3 Session in Jeju Forum will reflect on the lives and histories of marginalized people, and explore the future direction for the 4·3. 한반도의 분단과 제주 4·3 등 20세기의 비극적인 사 건은 수많은 경계의 삶을 만들었다. 재일 한국인 등 경 계인(marginal man)들은 편견과 차별, 고통스런 역사 의 언어로 상징돼 온 것이 현실이다. 4·3 70년을 넘어 선 이 시대는 비극의 시대를 넘어 민족의 개념과 경계를 허물어야 할 시기다. 이제 경계는 한반도 평화 공존 의 시대, 언어와 국가와 인종과 문화를 초월한 개념으로, 경계를 넘어 동아시아 평화 공존을 논할 시기에 이르렀다. 과연 4·3은 어떠한 경계를 만들었으며, 앞으로 경계를 넘는다는 것은 무엇인가. 경계를 넘어서 4·3을 본다는 것은 무엇인가. 이번 제주포럼에서는 <4·3과 경계>를 의제로, 소위 경계의 삶을 살아온 이들의 삶과 역사를 돌아보고, 4·3의 미래를 탐색해보고자 한다.
