U.S.-China relations can be regarded as a hegemonic competition in East Asia since Chinese “One Belt One Road” seeks for a gateway toward the ocean and America’s “Rebalancing” blocks the Chinese pathway in the continent. The Sino-American relations face a turning point. While Chinese economy gets stuck in a recession and stagnation, the U.S. reemerges as the superpower in the military and economy.
In this session, participants will discuss U.S.-China relations and present future prospects for peace and prosperity in East Asia.

미국의 ‘재균형’ 전략과 중국의 ‘일대일로(一帶一路)’는 동아시아를 무대로 한 미국과 중국의 패권경쟁을 보여 준다. 이는 기득권을 확보하려는 미국이라는 방패와 이에 도전하는 중국이라는 창의 힘겨루기로 비유할 수 있다. 이렇듯 2016년 벽두부터 미중관계는 기존의 추세와는 다른 양상으로 전개되고 있다. 미국의 경제적 재부상과 중국의 경제위기, 그리고 군비경쟁에 있어 미국의 새로운 무기 패러다임의 개발과 중국의 군비확장은 변화의 단초로 보인다.
이 세션에서는 새로운 국면을 맞이하는 동아시아 질서의 방향을 가늠하고 이에 따르는 동아시아 평화와 번영의 향배를 논의한다.
