Understanding North Korea: Implication of the Eighth Party Congress and Strategy to Overcome Challenges		 Diamond Hall B
In the Eighth Party Congress of North Korea, which was held five years after the Seventh Party Congress, Kim Jong Un acknowledged the failure of the Five-Year National Economic Development Strategy, and announced plans to revitalize its economy together with bolstering all industrial sectors. And significant changes were featured in reorganizing leadership body and power shifts in military, the party and the government.

In this session, speakers will review different outcomes between the Seventh and the Eighth Party Congress, and North Korea's internal and external challenges. And the session will also discuss North Korean Foreign Policy, and the future of North Korean Economy including possibility of opening and reforming, and the process of normalizing military system. Through this session, innovative strategies and policy options to overcome current difficulties will be addressed.

5년만에 개최된 북한의 제8차 당대회에서는 국가경제발전 5개년 전략의 실패를 인정하고 경제 활성화 방안을 발표했다. 또한 조직기구 개편을 통해 당적 지도체계 강화에 방점을 뒀으며, 군부, 당, 내각의 권력과 지위 등에도 대폭적인 변화가 있었다.

이 세션에서는 제7차 당대회와의 다른 점을 분석하고 북한의 대내외적 과제에 대해 논의한다. 제8차 당대회를 통해 본 북한의 외교정책, 개혁과 개방 등 북한 경제에 대한 미래 예측 등에 대해 살펴보며, 군부의 변화와 정상화 과정에 대해 토론할 예정이다. 본 세션을 통해 현 상황을 타개하기 위한 발전적이고 혁신적인 조치와 정책노선에 대해서도 논할 예정이다.
