이정철은 2002년부터 2006년까지 삼성경제연구소에서 수석연구원과 경제안보팀 팀장을 거쳤으며 2006년 9월부터 숭실대학교 정치외교학과에서 교수로 근무하였다. 숭실대학교 재임 시절에는 숭실평화통일연구원 원장으로 재직하며 연구 활동에 매진했다. 2014년에는 조지워싱턴대학교 시거센터에서 15개월간 방문학자 연수를 마쳤고 현재는 서울대학교 정치외교학부에서 교수로 재직 중이다. 현재 통일부, 국회, 청와대 등 다양한 공공기관에서 남북관계 관련 자문위원으로 활동 중이다. 그는 1991년 서울대학교 법과대학을 졸업하였고, 이후 1995년부터 서울대학교 대학원에서 1997년 석사 학위를 그리고 2002년에는 북한 정치 경제로 박사학위를 받았다.

Jung-Chul Lee is a Professor in the department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. He was a former Chief of Team for Economic Security Studies in the Samsung Economic Research Institute (2002-2006) and a Professor in the dep’t of PS & IR at Soongsil University.(2006-2021). In 2014, he served as a visiting scholar at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies in George Washington University. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (1991) from Seoul National University and an M.A. (1997) in Political Science from Seoul National University. He completed his Ph.D. in Political Science at Seoul National University in 2002.
