70th Year of the Korean War and 4.3 - Approaches for Peace		 Emerald
A Tragic Incident, Jeju 4.3 brought about the unprecedent level of sacrifice caused by the state power in the context of Cold War. In particular, 2020 is the 75th year since the division of the Korean peninsula as well as 70th year after the Korean War. Now, we should look back on the 20th century from the standpoint of the Korean peninsula where the nation has been formally divided, which is a notable case for global audience. The massacres amid the Jeju 4.3, the Korean War, and the division gave rise to unfathomable, both in quantitative and qualitative measures, diasporic experiences within and outside of the Korean peninsula. The war and conflict have not ended in the 21st century. With the topic of “70th year of the Korean War and 4·3-Approach for Peace,” we investigate the presence of division and diaspora caused by the Jeju 4.3 and the warfare in the present reflection, with a hope for peace, reunification, human rights, and reconciliation.


유례없는 팬더믹시대를 맞아 우리는 우리사회의 사유와 성찰을 요구하는 시간을 살고 있다. 과거사를 통해 평화와 인권의 환경을 성찰하는 것 역시 이 시대에 매우 소중한 담론일 것이다.
제2차 세계대전 후 냉전의 산물인 제주4.3은 국가공권력에 의해 유례없이 참혹한 희생을 가져온 비극적 사건이다. 특히 올해는 한반도 분단 75주년, 한국전쟁 70주년을 맞는 해로, 주목할 만한 사례인 한반도가 다시 한 번 지난 세기를 되돌아보아야할 시점이다. 4.3 등 전쟁과 분단은 이루 헤아릴 수 없는 국내외 디아스포라를 양산했다. 21세기에도 전쟁과 대립은 종식되지 않았다. 이에 <한국전쟁 70년과 4·3-평화를 위한 접근>을 주제로, 4.3과 전쟁으로 인한 분단과 이산(離散)의 현재를 현재적 성찰로 짚어보고, 평화와 통일, 인권과 화합의 미래를 전망해 본다.
