[East Asia Foundation 동아시아재단] Many had expected the North Korean regime to collapse after Kim Il-sung died in 1994. However, it did not and Kim Jong-il successfully consolidated his power. Similarly, many believed that the North Korean regime was going to disappear when Kim Jong-il died in 2011. Once again, Kim Jong-un quickly consolidated his power and it remains intact till this day. Why and how is the North Korean regime so resilient? What are its strategies in this regard? How effective is its internal security apparatus? How does it maintain the loyalty of its supporters? Most importantly, how does it formulate important policies, both foreign and domestic? Experts in this session will discuss the North Korean regime’s dynamics. 1994년 김일성 사후 많은 이들은 북한 정권이 붕괴할 것이라고 생각했다. 그러나 예상과 다르게 북한 정권 은 무너지지 않았고, 김정일은 성공적으로 집권 과정 을 마무리했다. 마찬가지로, 2011년 김정일이 사후에 도 많은 사람들은 북한 정권이 무너질 것이라고 믿었 다. 하지만 김정은은 빠르게 권력을 강화하면서 정권 을 거머쥐었고, 지금까지도 이어져오고 있다. 북한 정 권의 이런 회복탄력성은 어디서 어떻게 나오는 것인 가? 이와 관련한 북한의 전략은 무엇인가? 북한의 내 부 보안 및 감시 체계는 얼마나 효과적인 것인가? 인 민들의 충성심을 어떻게 유지시켜 나가는 것인가? 또 한 북한은 어떤 방식으로 국내외 중요 사안을 결정해 가고 있는가? 이번 세션을 통해 북한 체제의 역학에 대한 전문가들의 견해를 들어본다.
