고유환 교수는 현재 동국대학교 북한학과 교수와 북한학연구소 소장을 겸임하고 있다.
또한, 그는 2017년부터 민주평화통일자문회의 기획조정위원회 운영위원장과 청와대 국가안보실 정책자문위원장을 맡아 활동하고 있다. 그리고 2009년부터 민족화해협력국민협의회의 정책위원으로 활동 중이다.
고 교수는 통일준비위원회 위원, 북한연구학회 회장, 사회통합위원회 이념분과 위원, 대통령자문 정책기획위원회 위원(통일외교안보팀장). 통일부 남북관계 발전위원회 위원, 통일부 정책자문위원 등 다양한 위원회와 학회의 회장과 위원으로 활동했다.

Professor Koh is currently teaching North Korean Studies at Dongguk University and he is also the Director at the Institute for North Korean Studies. Starting from 2017, he has been working as the Chairman of the planning committee in the National Unification Advisory Council and Chairman of the policy advisory committee at the Office of National Security.
Prior to his position as the Director of the Institute for North Korean studies, he has been working as a Committee member of Unification Preparation, Chairman of the North Korean Research Association, Committee on the Development of Inter-Korean Relations at the Ministry of Unification, working in the various fields.
