[Jeju Peace Institute 제주평화연구원]<BR><BR>Phenomenal growth across the region paved the way for Asia’s emergence as the engine of the world’s economic growth. Driven by this, Asia has also increased its presence and role in global politics. However, the recent worldwide economic slowdown is affecting Asian economies; while many challenges to regional peace and security remain to be solved. North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, regional powers’ conflict over history and territories, and deepening US-China rivalry are indicators of an unhealthy state of affairs in the region. Against this background, regional powers in Asia are realigning their policies and putting forward different visions in accordance with their own calculus and from their own perspectives. Whether such different visions will diverge or converge will lead us to different paths in shaping Asia’s future. Some distinguished foreign ambassadors in the Republic of Korea will participate in this session and present their views that will contribute to formulating a future vision for Asia.<BR><BR>아시아는 엄청난 경제 성장으로 세계 경제 성장 동력으로 부상했다. 이에 힘입어 아시아는 국제 정치무대 에서 그 비중과 역할이 더욱 커졌다. 그러나 최근 세 계 경기 침체의 영향으로 아시아 경제도 타격을 받고 있고 역내 평화와 안보에 대한 많은 도전 요소 또한 여전히 해결되지 않은 상태다. 북한의 핵·미사일 위협, 과거사와 영토를 둘러싼 분쟁, 심화되는 미중 경쟁은 이 지역의 불안한 상태를 나타낸다. 이를 배경으로 아시아 강대국은 정책을 재조정하고 서로 다른 비전을 제시하고 있다. 이들이 서로 상이한 비전으로 흩어질지 아니면 하나로 모일지에 따라 아시아의 미래가 향하는 길은 달라질 것이다. 이 세션에서는 주요국 주한 대사들이 참석해 아시아의 미래 비전을 형성하기 위한 견해를 제시한다.
