기후 위기와 코로나19로 인한 경제위기 속에서 우주산업은 지속 가능한 산업으로서 전 세계의 주목을 받고 있다. 또한, 그동안 정부 및 대기업이 주도하고 있었던 우주산업이 민간 및 소규모 기업들이 주도하는 새로운 패러다임으로 전환되고 있는 상황이다. 이렇게 우주산업이 핵심적 미래산업으로 인식되고 참여하는 국가와 기업들이 늘어남에 따라 국제 공유지로서의 우주를 평화적으로 이용하기 위한 협력적 논의가 필요한 시점이다. 이런 배경에서 공존과 협력의 대주제로 열리는 제17회 제주포럼에서 협력적 우주산업 발전 전략을 모색하는 것은 매우 의미가 있다고 할 수 있다.
특히, 제주도는 발사 및 위성 운용의 최적지로 이러한 우주산업의 발전에 중요한 역할을 담당할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 뉴 스페이스(New Space) 시대에 대비한 제주 우주산업의 장단기 정책 방향 및 전략을 논의하고, 우주산업을 제주의 미래 핵심 산업으로 육성하기 위한 논의의 장이 될 수 있기를 기대한다.


In the midst of the climate crisis and the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, the space industry is recognized as a sustainable industry in all over the world. In addition, the paradigm of the space industry is shifting from government and large corporations to private and small startups. As more and more countries and companies are participating in the space industry, it is time to have a discussion for cooperation to utilize the universe peacefully as an international public land. Against this backdrop, it is very meaningful to seek a cooperative strategy for space industry development at the 17th Jeju Forum, which is held under the main theme of coexistence and cooperation.
Jeju island is the best place for launch and satellite management and is expected to play an important role in the development of Korean space industry. In preparation for this New Space era, Jeju’s policy direction and strategy for developing the space industry should be established. This forum can be a crucial discussion for making the space industry a core future industry in Jeju.
