[3-G] Strategic Approaches to CO2 Sequestration Using Harvestable Algae and Kelp Forest
이산화탄소 저감을 위한 해조류 이용 전략

Worldwide efforts to reduce CO2 gas have been initiated recently because high CO2 concentration is a major causative factor in global warming. Seaweeds absorb atmospheric CO2 and turn into organic compounds as wellbeing foods. Seaweeds have been recognized as important mitigation and adaptation measures of Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) in the new climate era.
Jeju is a center of algal diversity, where warm and cold currents mix in the Pacific Northwest ocean. The Korea Society of Phycology will discuss values of algal diversity in Jeju and suggest conservation strategies including integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system as an adaptation measures in the context of climate change.

급격한 이산화탄소 증가는 지구온난화를 일으키는 주요 원인으로 지목된다. 이에 세계 각국에서는 대기 중 이산화탄소의 효율적 흡수 방안을 찾고자 노력하고 있다. 해조류는 이산화탄소의 주요 흡수원이면서 웰빙 시대의 먹거리로 각광받으며 미래 인류의 주요 자원으로 떠오르고 있다. 또한 유엔 신기후체제 하에서 해조류를 이용한 온실가스 감축 및 적응 방안이 세계적으로 중요한 이슈로 대두되고 있다.
제주바다는 난류와 한류가 만나는 우리나라 해조류 다양성의 중심지로서 종다양성을 연구하고 보전해야 할 필요성을 지닌 주요 지역이다. 한국조류학회는 이번 제주포럼에서 제주바다 환경의 가치를 새로이 평가하고 이를 보전하는 방법과 효율적 이용 정책을 제안하고자 한다.
