18세기 이후, 화석연료 사용으로 인한 지구온난화라는 기후위기는 인류의 생존을 위협하고 있다. 인류의 생존을 위해서는 새로운 탈탄소 에너지를 찾아 나서야 하며 그 대안이 될 수 있는 것이 ‘그린수소’이다.
제주도는 2012년부터 카본프리아일랜드라는 에너지전환 정책을 추진하면서 신재생에너지 발전비율 19.1%(2022년 기준)과 전기차 보급 8.3%(34,460대, 2023년 4월 기준)로 전국 최고를 달성하였다.
이러한 성과를 기반으로 지난해 9월, 그린수소 글로벌 허브구축 계획을 발표하면서 탄소중립 에너지 전환에서 국가적 방향성을 제시하고 있다.
이번에 개최하는 ‘지속가능한 그린수소 생태계 조성을 위한 과제’세션에서는 논의 결과를 기반으로 그린수소 분야 정책적 지원과 활성화 기반을 마련할 계획이다. 또한, 2050 탄소중립을 위한 그린수소 선도 도시들과의 교류를 위한 네트워크를 구축하고 향후, 그린수소 글로벌 허브로서 제주도가 글로벌 리더십을 발휘하는 플랫폼으로서의 역할을 수행 할 것이다.

Since 2012, Jeju province has been promoting an energy transition policy called ‘Carbon Free Island’, achieving the highest renewable energy generation rate of 19.1% (as of 2022) and the highest electric vehicle supply rate of 8.3% (34,460 units, as of April 2023) in the country. Based on these achievements, in September last year, Jeju province announced a plan to build a green hydrogen global hub, providing a national direction in the transition to carbon-neutral energy.

The 18th Jeju Forum session on ‘Challenges and prospects for creating a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem’ will lay the foundation for policy support and revitalization of the green hydrogen sector based on the discussion results. It will also establish a network for exchanges with leading green hydrogen cities for carbon neutrality in 2050 and serve as a platform for Jeju Island to demonstrate global leadership as a green hydrogen global hub.
