[Jeju National University Institute of Peace Studies 제주대학교 평화연구소] Recently Jeju and Okinawa became one of the most important islands in Korea, Japan and throughout East Asia. Many scholars have been paying attention to their historical experiences and unique culture. Moreover, they are important not only for their military bases but also for the tourism industry. This session will discuss how the people of these islands think about their future, and search for ways to deepen mutual understanding. 제주와 오키나와는 한국과 일본뿐만 아니라 동아시아 에서도 가장 중요한 섬으로 떠오르고 있다. 그 중요성 은 관광산업의 발전이라는 경제적 측면뿐만 아니라 군사기지의 확대라는 안보 측면도 포함하고 있다. 따라서 제주도와 오키나와의 주민들이 어떻게 자신들의 미래를 구상하고 있는지 의견을 교환하고, 상호 교류 와 협력을 확대시켜 갈 수 있는 방안을 모색한다.
