[Jeju Special Self-Governing Province / Jeju Peace Institute 제주특별자치도/제주평화연구원] It is written in the Constitution of UNESCO that “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed,” In this regard, just as art and culture can effectively influence the minds of men, they can also play an essential role in fostering peace and reconciliation in any society. How have art and culture contributed to peace and reconciliation following wars in Europe and on the Korean Peninsula? We can find answers from the experiences of France and the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. In this session, panelists will explore the role of art and culture as a catalyst for peace and reconciliation. 유네스코 헌장은 “전쟁은 인간의 마음속에서 생기는 것이므로 평화의 방벽을 세워야 할 곳도 인간의 마음 속이다” 라고 말한다. 예술과 문화만큼 인간의 마음에 영향을 주는 것은 없으며, 예술과 문화는 어느 사회에 서든 평화와 화해를 위하여 중요한 역할을 한다. 예술 과 문화는 인류의 평화와 화해를 위하여 어떻게 기여 하는가? 이 세션에서는 2차세계대전을 겪은 프랑스의 경험과 평창동계올림픽을 계기로 평화의 물꼬를 튼 남북한의 경험을 통해 평화와 화해를 위한 촉매제로 서 예술과 문화의 역할을 탐구한다.
