Asian international relations have been characterized by enduring stability amid uncertainty, emerging opportunities amid threats, and expanding institutions amid competing interests. To address these evolving dynamics at multiple levels and domains, this panel seeks to examine and unpack several key dimensions of the
contemporary inter-state affairs in East Asia. These include: the sources of strategic stability in East Asia, the patterns of policy responses to transnational and sub-national security challenges in Southeast Asia, the power of "middle power diplomacy" in Asia, and the effects of regional multilateralism in regional order.

아시아의 국제관계는 불확실성 속에서 안정이 지속되고, 위협 속에서 기회가 생겨나는 한편, 경쟁적 이해관계 속에서 제도적 틀이 확장되는 특징을 띠고 있다. 이처럼 다양한 수준과 영역에 걸친 역동성을 다루기 위해 이 세션은 동아시아 국가 간 핵심적 현안문제를 검토하고 분석하고자 한다. 이들 현안에는 동아시아의 전략적 측면에서 안정요소, 동남아시아의 국가 대 국가 간 안보과제 및 국내 안보과제에 대한 정책적 대응양식, 아시아의 중견국 외교가 가진 힘, 그리고 역내 질서 안에서 지역적 다원주의가 가지는 효과가 포함된다.
