아시아 물 산업 현황과 미래 발전방향

Thanks to the rapid economic growth, coupled with fast urbanization, Asia’s water industry has greater potential for growth than any other region in the world. The priorities of water policies vary slightly with the conditions of each country: seawater desalination being major task for Arabian Gulf countries; the search for water sources for China; the treatment of polluted water for India; and the development of stable water resources for Southeast Asian countries.
In particular, Singapore has emerged as a hub for the water industry, attracting renowned water producers
from around the world, after it successfully overcame its natural water shortages and disadvantageous
geological structure, thanks to the government’s far-sighted and detailed strategies, and investment in water supply projects.
Jeju has, as its water sources, spring water from rain that filters down through stone into underground
stream flows and volcanic sea water with unlimited application possibilities. The challenge Jeju faces right now is ,therefore, how to realize one of the Jeju's future visions by enhancing the value of Jeju water in connection with Samdasoo, which has become a top brand in the Korean market.
This session will shed light on the less known values of the pollution-free environment of Jeju Island and its water and explore ways to level up Jeju’s water industry through pursuing cooperative projects with other Asian countries.

비약적인 경제성장과 동시에 급속한 도시화가 진행되고 있는 아시아 여러 국가는 지구촌 어느 지역보다 물 산업 성장 잠재력이 크다. 중동지역의 해수담수화, 중국의 상수원 확보, 인도의 수질오염원 처리, 동남아시아의 지속적이고 안정적인 수자원 확보기술 등 각 지역별로 유망한 물 산업 분야에는 조금씩 차이가 있다.
특히 싱가포르의 경우 정부의 치밀한 미래전략과 집중적인 투자를 통해 부족한 수자원과 불리한 지질구조를 극복하여 전 세계 유수의 물 산업 기업들이 앞 다투어 진출하는 물 산업 허브로 발돋움하고 있다. 제주는 빗물이 지하수로 유입되어 활용가능성이 무궁무진한 수자원으로 함양되고 있는 용천수 및 용암해수 등을 이미 시장에 안착시킨 삼다수와 연계하여 제주 물의 가치를 키워나가는 미래 비전을 실현해야 할 과제를 안고 있다.
이 세션은 청정 제주와 제주 물의 가치를 조명하고 아시아 여러 나라와의 상호 협력과제 발굴을 통해 제주 물 산업의 가치를 한 단계 끌어올리는 논의의 자리이다.
