Recently, as ESG management has become a hot topic around the world, sustainable tourism through ESG management is becoming an issue in the tourism field. ESG is becoming an important consideration factor in tourism management and policy decision-making in the environment characterized with climate change, intensifying social conflict, and the need to create social values ??and establish governance. In particular, the tourism industry, which contributes nearly 7% of global carbon emissions, requires a careful approach to minimize environmental damage because the development of the industry can intensify the climate crisis and adversely affect the ecosystem. In addition, UNWTO (International Tourism Organization) and WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) are presenting fair tourism and responsible tourism as core agendas based on the problem that the benefits of tourism development centered on quantitative growth are not evenly distributed to local communities. Lastly, the sustainable development of the industrial ecosystem, the establishment of a transparent and fair governance structure that is not shaken by short-term leadership or external variables, and the establishment of governance are essential elements for the long-term development of the tourism industry. Considering this importance, this session will introduce the low-carbon tourism roadmap strategy through ESG management and discuss ways to build a tourism ecosystem that fulfills its social responsibility. In addition, by sharing cases of Jeju integrated resorts that are actually practicing ESG management, we will derive implications for the development of Jeju tourism ESG. |
