최근 전 세계적으로 ESG경영이 화두가 되면서 관광분야에서도 ESG경영을 통한 지속가능한 관광이 이슈가 되고 있다. 기후변화와 사회갈등 심화 그리고 사회적 가치 창출 및 지배구조 확립의 필요성을 바탕으로 관광경영 및 정책의사결정에 있어서 ESG는 중요한 고려요소가 되고 있다. 특히 전세계 탄소배출량의 7% 가까이 기여하는 관광산업은 산업의 발전이 오히려 기후위기를 심화시키고 생태계에 악영향을 미칠 수 있기에 환경피해를 최소화 하는 신중한 접근이 필요하다. 또한 양적성장 중심의 관광발전의 편익이 지역사회에 골고루 분배되지 못하는 문제점을 바탕으로 UNWTO(국제관광기구) 및 WTTC(국제여행협의회)에서는 공정관광 및 책임관광을 핵심의제로 제시하고 있다. 마지막으로 산업생태계의 지속가능한 발전과 단기적 리더쉽이나 외부변수에 의해 흔들리지 않는 투명하고 공정한 지배구조 확립 및 거버넌스 구축은 관광산업의 장기 발전에 필수적 요소이다. 이러한 중요성을 고려하여 본 세션에서는 ESG경영을 통한 저탄소관광 로드맵 전략을 소개하고 사회적 책임을 다하는 관광생태계 구축을 위한 방안을 논의하고자 한다. 또한 ESG경영을 실제로 실천하고 있는 제주 복합리조트 사례를 공유함으로써 제주관광 ESG 발전을 위한 시사점을 도출할 것이다.

Recently, as ESG management has become a hot topic around the world, sustainable tourism through ESG management is becoming an issue in the tourism field. ESG is becoming an important consideration factor in tourism management and policy decision-making in the environment characterized with climate change, intensifying social conflict, and the need to create social values ??and establish governance. In particular, the tourism industry, which contributes nearly 7% of global carbon emissions, requires a careful approach to minimize environmental damage because the development of the industry can intensify the climate crisis and adversely affect the ecosystem. In addition, UNWTO (International Tourism Organization) and WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) are presenting fair tourism and responsible tourism as core agendas based on the problem that the benefits of tourism development centered on quantitative growth are not evenly distributed to local communities. Lastly, the sustainable development of the industrial ecosystem, the establishment of a transparent and fair governance structure that is not shaken by short-term leadership or external variables, and the establishment of governance are essential elements for the long-term development of the tourism industry. Considering this importance, this session will introduce the low-carbon tourism roadmap strategy through ESG management and discuss ways to build a tourism ecosystem that fulfills its social responsibility. In addition, by sharing cases of Jeju integrated resorts that are actually practicing ESG management, we will derive implications for the development of Jeju tourism ESG.
