FORUM

This year, the Jeju Forum hosted 3,672 participants from 49 countries, the largest number in the forum’s history, signaling its growing importance as an international forum that deals comprehensively with a variety of topics. With one voice, Asian political leaders and erudite scholars from around the world expressed their yearning for peace on the Korean Peninsula, and delivered the East Asian community’s shared vision of a peaceful, constructive resolution to historical and territorial disputes in Asia, founded on mutual understanding.  Seeking global cooperation that befits this anticipated paradigm shift, a broad range of topics was considered, including the economy, culture, women, energy, and climate change. As a result of these discussions, new measures were devised to respond effectively to various crises and changes.Based on the fruits of this year’s discussions.

In terms of economic as well as historical aspects, Korea, China and Japan are very close to each other.
If the entire Asian region solidifies and rallies around the three leading nations, new economic power and synergy effect could be created despite not having a single currency such as that of the European Union.

For economic growth, there are many obstacles to overcome. With the inclusion of China in the Group of Twenty (G-20), not only Asia but the whole world has been analyzing China. However, analysis on China alone is not enough to understand the entire Asian region. For Korea, it is particularly important to establish discussion with Japan.

Because of unfortunate history with Japan, there still are a lot of obstacles to overcome. However, this session offers an opportunity to come up with a plan to use new technology in the world not just in Asia and discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.

아시아 대표국가 한중일은 지리적으로 역사적으로 히스토리가 있다는 것은 뒤로 하고라도 경제적인 부분에서도
아시아를 대표하는 나라입니다. 이 세 나라를 중심으로 아시아 전체가 연대협력할 때 유럽연합처럼 화폐개혁까지는 힘들지라도, 새로운 구도의 경제적 파워와 시너지가 탄생할 수 있습니다. 경제적 성장에는 풀어야 할 숙제들이 많이 남아있습니다. 신흥대국 G20 대열의 중국에 대해서는 아시아가 아닌 세계의 모든 나라가 연구 분석을 하고 있습니다.

그러나 중국 하나로 아시아를 파악할 수 없고, 한국 입장에서는 그 중에서도 가깝고도 먼 나라 일본과의 대화가 더욱 중요한 시점입니다. 일본과는 역시 역사로도 풀리지 않는 숙제들이 있으나, 아시아가 아닌 세계를 무대로 한 신사업, 신기술을 어떻게 펼쳐나갈지 경제적인 부분들을 함께 계획하고 설계해가면서 만들어 갈 한일 경제협력을 논의해 보는 시간을 갖습니다.
