This year, the Jeju Forum hosted 3,672 participants from 49 countries, the largest number in the forum’s history, signaling its growing importance as an international forum that deals comprehensively with a variety of topics. With one voice, Asian political leaders and erudite scholars from around the world expressed their yearning for peace on the Korean Peninsula, and delivered the East Asian community’s shared vision of a peaceful, constructive resolution to historical and territorial disputes in Asia, founded on mutual understanding. Seeking global cooperation that befits this anticipated paradigm shift, a broad range of topics was considered, including the economy, culture, women, energy, and climate change. As a result of these discussions, new measures were devised to respond effectively to various crises and changes.Based on the fruits of this year’s discussions.

Many Asian countries are actively inviting top foreign universities in order to foster a high-quality native manpower. As part of an educational infrastructure, a national project is under way in order to transform Jeju into a Free International City. We are currently seeking to establish branch campuses of outstanding foreign universities for an appropriate balance between elementary and secondary education institutions and higher education institutions. In addition, branch campuses will effectively complete Jeju’s quest to become a truly global education city. We will discuss implications, policy tasks, and promotion strategies regarding the internationalization of education in Jeju Global Education City through an overview of the current trends in internationalizing education in Asian countries and a comparative studies of top foreign university’s overseas campuses establishments. 국경을 넘는 글로벌 교육 서비스의 확산과 고등교육 국제화의 흐름 속에 우수 대학들의 해외 분교 설립이 활발히 이루어지고 있으며, 아시아 각국은 외국 유명대학의 고등교육 서비스를 통한 자국의 우수 인력을 육성을 위해 외국의 우수 대학들을 적극적으로 유치하고 있습니다. 교육 분야 인프라 구축을 통해 제주를 국제자유도시로 조성하기 위한 국책사업으로 영어교육도시가 추진 중에 있으며, 영어교육도시가 초중등 교육기관과 고등 교육기관이 적절히 조화를 이루고 국제 교육도시로서의 완성된 모습을 갖추도록 하기 위해 외국 유명대학 유치를 추진하고 있습니다. 아시아 지역의 교육 국제화의 흐름 변화를 살펴보고 외국 우수대학 유치 사례 비교를 통해 제주에 대한 시사점, 정책적 과제, 추진전략에 대해서 토론합니다. |
