[동아시아재단 East Asia Foundation] Following Kim Jong-un’s 2018 New Year’s speech, President Moon Jae-in had launched his peace initiative, which eventually led to North Korea’s participation in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Since then, and unprecedentedly, President Moon and Chairman Kim met three times in a short span of time. Moreover, for the first time in history, Washington and Pyongyang were able to hold a summit in Singapore on June 2018. How should we assess President Moon’s efforts? South Koreans are clearly divided on this matter. In this session, foreign experts will provide their assessments. 김정은 위원장의 2018년 새해 연설 이후 문재인 대통령은 평화 이니셔티브를 제시했고, 이를 계기로 북한 은 평창 동계올림픽에 참여할 수 있었다. 그 후에는 이례적으로 문 대통령과 김 위원장이 짧은 기간 동안 무려 세 차례 만났다. 그리고 2018년 6월에는 역사상 처 음으로 미국과 북한이 싱가포르에서 정상회담을 개최하기도 했다. 문 대통령의 노력을 어떻게 평가할 수 있을 것인가? 이와 관련한 한국인들의 의견은 분분하다. 이번 세션에서는 외국 전문가들의 평가를 들어보기로 한다.
