[Special Lecture by Nobel Laureate Economist Paul Krugman] 		Tamna A
The recent “trade war” between the U.S. and China has dealt a serious impact to the world economy, also exerting a substantial influence on the politics and diplomacy in Northeast Asia. Professor Paul Krugman, an internationally renowned economics scholar, will give a lecture on the impact of the global trade war on the security environment in Northeast Asia.
Paul Krugman is Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York and an op-ed columnist for The New York Times. He previously taught at MIT, Stanford, and Princeton. He is the author or editor of 23 books and more than 200 professional journal articles, many of them on international trade and finance. In recognition of his work on international trade and economic geography, Krugman received the John Bates Clark award of the American Economic Association in 1991 and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2008.

최근 미-중 간 ‘무역전쟁’은 세계경제에 충격파를 던짐은 물론 동북아 정치·외교에까지 적지 않은 영향을 미
치고 있다. 국제경제 석학인 폴 크루그먼 교수는 글로벌 무역 전쟁이 동북아 안보환경에 미치는 영향에 대해 강연한다.
폴 크루그먼은 자유무역과 국제화 효과를 분석한 공로를 인정 받아 2008년 노벨경제학상 단독으로 수상했다. 크루그먼은 예일대를 졸업하고, MIT에서 경제학 박사학위를 받았다. 1982~1983년 레이건 행정부에서 경제자문위, 국제 무역론과 국제 금융론, 산업정책분야에서 뛰어난 업적을 쌓아왔다. 1991년 38세의 나이로 미국 경제학회가 2년마다 ‘가장 우수한 소장 경제학자’에게 수여하는 존 베이츠 클라크 메달을 받았다.
1994년 아시아 경제위기를 예견한 바 있고, 2000년부터 <뉴욕타임스> 고정 칼럼니스트로 활동하며 학계에만 머물지 않고 현실과 소통하는 ‘실천하는 학자’이다. <경제학의 향연>(1995), <불황의 경제학>(1999)등 20여 권의 저서와 200편 이상의 논문을 발표한 바 있다. 예일대, 스탠포드대, MIT, 프린스턴대 등을 거쳐 현재 뉴욕시립대(CUNY) 교수로 재직중이다.
