“Industry 4.0” has been a huge buzzword, but there is still confusion about the idea and its implications as well as the necessary adjustments in politics, law and business. What kind of frameworks do we wish to see? How do businesses survive and gain a competitive edge in this fast-changing world? To what extent should governments play a role? How do we as Liberals balance the need for freedom to innovate with the risks and upheavals that disruptive change will bring? It is important to better understand the nature of this transformation, analyze the challenges it poses both for industry and policy sectors, and to critically discuss common strategies to harness this new force in order to enhance our economic prosperity.

“인더스트리 4.0”은 이란 용어가 크게 유행하고 있다. 그러나, 인더스트리 4.0의 개념과 함의 및 이 현상이 정치, 법, 산업 영역에서 필연적으로 초래할 조정과정이 어떠할지는 명확하지 않다. 우리는 어떤 프레임워크를 원하고 있는가? 이처럼 급변하는 세상에서 어떻게 기업이 생존하고, 또 경쟁력을 담보해 나갈수 있을 것인가? 정부의 역할은 어디까지인가? 혁신을 추구할 자유와, 이 급변하는 혁신이 초래하게될 위험과 격변이란 문제를 어떻게 하면 자유주의적 관점에서 균형있게 다룰 수 있을 것인가?
이를 위해서는, 4차 산업혁명의 본질을 보다 잘 이해하고, 산업계와 정부 양측이 직면하는 어려움을 함께 분석하는 것이 중요하다. 또한, 경제번영을 도모하기 위해서, 이 새로운 동력을 잘 활용할 수 있도록 하는 공동전략을 진지하게 논의해야 할 것이다.
