The 6th Jeju Forum evaluated the challenges and opportunities the rise of China and the reunification of the Korean peninsula will offer. The Forum also took note of the great potential of new growth on the basis of the Asian entrepreneurship. With this background, various programs on Korea-China economic cooperation are prepared. The contents of new standard and its perspectives were reviewed. New growth potential, creative industry, new leadership, the future of education and the role of women were also addressed. Peace and common prosperity on the Korean peninsula and East Asia through the promotion of mutual understanding was discussed. The cultural exchanges and fusion in East Asia was reviewed and we evaluated how it is promoting the sense of community among the Asian peoples. Various issues of peace in East Asia such as the resolution of the North Korean nuclear problem, historical reconciliation and maritime security are among the topics. The recent natural disaster of Japan was reviewed and among the related topics are how to deal with the climate change and natural disasters.

While a vast flood of information is being transmitted across the continents at an unprecedented speed and scope nowadays, it is too often incomplete and even misleading without a proper knowledge and understanding on the part of both the senders and receivers of such information. Without adequate knowledge, an abundance of information is likely to contribute to miscommunication and misunderstanding, as well as conflict, between the senders and receivers. This creates the need for an epistemic community a global network of knowledge-based specialists to help overcome the potential for misunderstanding and confrontation as a result of incomplete or misinterpreted information. This session seeks to identify the practical efforts needed to construct an epistemic community in East Asia and beyond. This year, the Korea Foundation will launch its “KF Global e-School” program for the purpose of educating our next generation of leaders and professionals. This innovative program will serve to build an epistemic community through the operation of cooperative educational networks at the regional and global levels. This session will focus on cross-border educational cooperation, through the KF Global e-School program and related initiatives. 21세기를 흔히‘지식 정보 시대’로 이야기합니다. 이는 과거에 비해 지식과 정보의 확산속도가 비교할 수 없을 만큼 빨라지고 공유되는 지식의 범위 역시 넓어졌다는 점을 의미합니다. 지식의 공유는 서로에 대해 알 기회를 확대한다는 점에서 동아시아의 평화와 번영에 적지 않은 의미를 지닙니다. 서로의 의도에 대한 투명성이 높아지고, 서로를 잘 이해하게 된다면 대결과 배타적 각축보다는 협력과 선의의 경쟁이 촉진될 수 있기 때문입니다. 지역 혹은 세계 차원의 지식공동체 형성을 위해서는 국경을 넘어선 교육협력 네트워크가 더욱 확대될 필요가 있습니다. 한국국제교류재단(KF)은 이를 감안, 2011년부터 글로벌 교육협력 네트워크의 형성을 위한 작업의 일환으로‘KF Global e-School’프로그램을 추진하고 있습니다. 아시아 그리고 더 나아가 아시아를 넘어선 교육협력을 위해서는 어떠한 점들이 고려되어야 하며, 어떤 장애요인들을 극복해 나가야 하는가?에 대하여 각국 전문가들의 솔직한 입장을 들어봅니다. - 지식 네트워크는 지역 평화와 번영에 어떤 영향을 미칠 것인가? - 교육협력 네트워크의 구축을 위해 어떠한 노력들이 전개되어 왔는가? - 교육협력 네트워크 강화를 위한 요건들은 무엇인가? - 현재부터 각 국가 및 공공기관들이 지향해야 할 바는 무엇인가? - 공통의 가치 발견과 민족주의를 극복하는 노력은 어떻게 전개해야 하는가?
