2022년 12월, 한국은 자유·평화·번영의 인도태평양 전략을 발표하였다. 인태지역의 중요성과 함께 인태지역에서의 한국의 행보에 국제사회의 관심이 높아지고 있으며 외신의 보도도 증가하고 있다. 한반도의 핵 문제 등 전통적인 안보 위협부터 사이버 위협, 글로벌 공급망 불안 등 신흥 안보 도전까지 글로벌 현안이 산재한 가운데 인태지역에서의 한국의 역할에 대해 관심이 커지고 있다. 이에 인태지역 내 한국의 역할과 외교정책에 대해 보다 객관적인 외부의 시선에서 돌아볼 필요가 있다. 취재 현장에 있는 주한 특파원들의 견해를 청취하고 효과적인 인태전략 이행에 참고가 되도록 하려한다.

In December 2022, the Republic of Korea unveiled its Strategy for a Free, Peaceful and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region. Given the strategic significance of the Indo-Pacific region and the Republic of Korea's activities therein, there is a growing international interest, with increasing media coverage by foreign outlets. Against the backdrop of global challenges, spanning from traditional security threats such as the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, to emerging security challenges such as cyber threats and global supply chain insecurity, attention is increasingly drawn towards the role of the Republic of Korea in the Indo-Pacific region. Consequently, there is a need to objectively evaluate the Republic of Korea's role and diplomatic policies within the region from an external perspective. With this aim in mind, we endeavor to gather views of foreign correspondents in Korea and offer insights for the effective implementation of the Indo-Pacific strategy.
