FORUM

The 7th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity reviewed these changes within historic context and highlight the future of Asia. The work of the forum was to pursue peace and common prosperity of the region on the basis of a sense of community. The interdependence and cultural fusion in Asia are surely contribute to the promotion of this sense of community. The issue of common prosperity was addressed and the potentiality of new growth on the basis of Asian entrepreneurship was explored. New growth engines, future of the IT industry, environmental conservation, sustainable management, financial cooperation, official development assistance, welfare expansion, city design, and the role of women are among the forum's topic.

In 2012 the Korean government introduced “East Asian History” to the high school curriculum as an elective course. In this first year about one-fourth of the high schools are teaching East Asian history, and an increasing number of schools are expected to teach this subject in the future. This growth reflects the needs of the times, which require cultivating leaders with a broader understanding of East Asia. This session will provide a forum to identify the historical strata of East Asian discourses and uncover new understandings of East Asian history that fit the current era, which seeks new directions for education in East Asian history. The session will first discuss how to teach East Asian history by focusing on the dynamics of the awareness and knowledge exchange regarding East Asia among Korea, China, and Japan. The session will then discuss current issues in and tasks for education in East Asian history through an introduction of the study of Korean education in East Asian history by AHN Byung Woo, the author of the Korean textbook on East Asian history

한국은 2012년 동아시아사 과목을 고등학교 선택과목으로 개설하였습니다. 교과목 개설 첫 해인 올해에 전국 1/4 가량의 고등학교에서 동아시아사를 가르치고 있고 앞으로 더욱 많은 학교와 학생들이 이 과목을 배우게 될 것으로 전망되고 있습니다. 이는 한국사회 내부에 일국사적 관점을 넘어 동아시아를 사유하고, 새로운 시대를 이끌 인재 양성이 절실하다는 시대적 요구가 하나의 흐름을 형성하고 있음을 반영하는 것입니다. 이런 맥락에서 이 세션은 동아시아론의 역사적 지층을 확인하고, 시대정신에 부응하는 동아시아의 새로운 역사상과 이를 견인해 나갈 동아시아 역사교육의 방향을 모색하기 위해 기획되었습니다. 이를 위해 우선 한중일 삼국의 동아시아 지식교류와 동아시아 인식 간의 역동성에 주목하면서 동아시아사를 어떻게 가르칠 것인가를 논의할 예정입니다. 그리고 동아시아사 교재 집필자인 안병우 교수의 한국의 동아시아사 교육 실험에 대한 소개를 통해 동아시아사 교육의 현황과 과제를 제시할 예정입니다.
