The 7th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity reviewed these changes within historic context and highlight the future of Asia. The work of the forum was to pursue peace and common prosperity of the region on the basis of a sense of community. The interdependence and cultural fusion in Asia are surely contribute to the promotion of this sense of community. The issue of common prosperity was addressed and the potentiality of new growth on the basis of Asian entrepreneurship was explored. New growth engines, future of the IT industry, environmental conservation, sustainable management, financial cooperation, official development assistance, welfare expansion, city design, and the role of women are among the forum's topic.

It is difficult to produce an alternative discourse for the future and the peace of East Asia without new understandings regarding regional history. The session will provide a forum for a straightforward and serious discussion of the philosophy, contents, and methodology of education in East Asian history, and of the East Asian discourses. The participants will also have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Germany, which contributes to historical reconciliation and to establish new understandings of Europe through research and cooperation. The Foundation is especially interested in initiating education in East Asian history and developing new understandings of East Asia and practical methodologies. The primary objective of the Foundation and of this session is to explore future directions for understanding in East Asia and history education in this globalized world by reviewing the experiences of knowledge exchange in East Asia and sharing a vision for the future beyond a nation-centric view of history 한국에서의 동아시아사 교육을 주도해 온 동북아역사재단은 동아시아 미래구상에 역사적 성찰과 비전을 담은 수준있는 동아시아사 교육이 절대적으로 중요하다고 생각합니다. 지역사에 대한 새로운 인식과 대중적 기초없이 동아시아 평화와 미래에 대한 대안적 담론을 생산하고 그 실천성을 확보해 나가기 어렵기 때문입니다. 이런 문제의식에서 이 세션은 동아시아 역사교육의 이념, 내용, 방법론, 그리고 한중일 삼국의 동아시아론 등에 대한 진솔하고도 진지한 토론을 위해 마련되었습니다. 아울러 국제교과서 연구와 운동을 통해 역사화해와 새로운 유럽인식 형성에 기여하고 있는 독일 국제교과서 연구소의 경험을 들어볼 예정입니다. 특히 재단은 한국에서 발화된 동아시아사 역사교육을 동아시아 지역에 대한 새로운 인식과 그 실천적 방법론으로까지 진전시켜 나가는 데 깊은 관심을 가지고 있습니다. 동아시아 지식교류의 경험을 성찰하면서 세계화시대에 조응하는 동아시아론과 역사교육의 방향을 탐구하는 것, 자기중심적 역사서술을 넘어 미래를 위한 역사비전을 공유하고 제시해 나가고자 하는 것이 이 세션의 목표이고 동북아역사재단의 지향입니다.
