[SPECIAL SESSION] Towards Forward-Looking Korea-Japan Relations		 Halla
한일관계를 논의할 때 단골메뉴로 등장하는 것이 미래지향적 한일관계이다. 하지만 지난 수년간 악화된 한일갈등이 경제·안보 문제로까지 확산되면서 미래지향적 한일관계에 대한 논의는 실종된 지 오래다. 반면 미중 전략경쟁의 심화와 북한의 핵·미사일 개발 고도화, 우크라이나 전쟁 등으로 인한 국제질서의 변화가 감지되는 작금의 현실에서 한일 양국에게는 정체된 양국 관계의 정상화와 공동번영의 미래를 위한 관계 재구축 필요성이 더욱 절실해지고 있다. 과연 한국의 윤석열 정부와 일본의 기시다 후미오 정부는 한일 신시대를 열어 나갈 수 있을 것인가?
이번 세션에서는 경색된 한일관계를 정상으로 되돌리기 위한 해결방안을 모색해 보고 한일양국이 공유할 수 있는 미래 공동 비전에 대한 허심탄회한 논의를 진행해 보고자 한다.


When discussing Korea-Japan relations, forging a future-oriented relationship is frequently put on the table. However, as the Korea-Japan conflict which has worsened over the past few years has spiraled into economic and security issues, the two countries have not discussed future-oriented relations for a long time. Meanwhile, changes in the international order have been detected such as the escalation of US-China strategic competition, the advancement of North Korea’s nuclear and missile development, and the outbreak of Ukraine War. Against this backdrop, there has been a more urgent need for Korea and Japan to normalize the strained bilateral relations and rebuild the relationship for a co-prosperous future. Will Korea’s Yoon administration and Japan’s Kishida administration be able to open a new era for the two countries?
This session aims to seek ways to improve the bilateral relations, and to have candid discussion on future joint vision that Korea and Japan can share.
