미국과 그 동맹국들의 글로벌 전략에 새롭게 등장한 “인도-태평양” 개념은 이 지역의 지정학적 관계를 새롭게 부상시켰다. 올 2월 미국은 자유롭고 개방된 인도-태평양을 위한 전략을 발표하였고 캐나다, 한국, 일본, 인도와 같은 이지역의 다른 국가들도 이에 호응하였다. 전략적 측면에서 아태개념에서 인태개념으로의 전환은 무엇을 의미하며 각국의 인태 전략의 초점은 무엇인가? 심화되는 미중 경쟁 시기에 이 새로운 전략개념이 한반도와 이지역의 다른 나라들에 시사하는 바는 무엇인가? 본 세션은 캐나다와 한국의 전 외교부 장관들, 현 국회의원들과 외교관들, 그리고 캐나다와 미국의 학자들이 참여하여 이러한 이슈들을 살펴보기 위해 이들 나라의 인태 전략들을 분석할 것이다. 또한 이들 전략들이 내포하는 협력방안, 갈등적 요소, 지정학적 경쟁등의 이슈들을 분석하며 특히 한반도에 미칠수 있는 파급력에 대한 논의가 이루어질 것이다.

"The “Indo-Pacific” concept recently championed by the US and its close allies has added new prominence to the geopolitics of this region. In February this year, the US announced its new strategy for a “free and open Indo-Pacific” region, and other key regional powers, including Canada, South Korea, Japan, and India have supported this initiative. What influenced the shift from “Asia-Pacific” to “Indo-Pacific” in the strategic narrative? What are the highlights of different countries’ Indo-Pacific strategies? Against the backdrop of intensified US-China competition, what are the implications of this new strategic framework for the region, particularly the Korean Peninsula? With former foreign ministers, current parliamentarians, diplomats, and scholars from Canada, Korea, and the US, the panel will address these questions. Focusing on the Indo-Pacific strategies of Canada, the US, and South Korea, it will evaluate strategies for cooperation, contending issues, and geopolitical competition. It will also assess the political and economic impact on the Korean Peninsula.
