FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

For the last three decades, the prediction that the 21st century will be the “Asian century” has became a cliché among the intellectuals in East Asia. It is true that there is a dynamic transformation of regional order taking place in East Asia: emergence of China and India, reemergence of the U.S., and Japanese conversion into a military power. However, no one can provide a clear picture of what is the future shape of Asian century. In the concept of Asian century, there are opportunities and threats: the world’s factory, engine for global economy, militarized confrontation from the Cold War order, new territorial disputes in the post Cold War era. This session will ask for wisdom concerning the future of Asian century.

21세기는 아시아의 세기가 될 것이라는 말은 이미 30년이 지난 상투적 표현이 되었습니다. 중국과 인도의 부상, 미국의 재부상, 그리고 일본의 역할 강화와 같이 국제질서가 동적으로 변화하고 있습니다. 아시아의 미래는 어떤 모습일까요? 아시아는 세계의 공장, 성장의 엔진, 냉전의 군사대결, 새로운 영토분쟁과 같이 기회와 위기가 산재해 있습니다. 21세기 아시아가 직면한 기회와 위기는 무엇인지 전문가들의 의견을 들어봅니다.
