FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

Although Asia has emerged as growth engine for the world economy, its regional peace and security has been under constant threat due to territorial disputes, historic issues, North Korea’s nuclear tests. Under these circumstances, so called “Asian Paradox” can be regarded as the remnants of the Asia in the past. In the opening ceremony, the leaders from Asian– Pacific countries are expected to present their visions for “New Asia”, where its growth and prosperity can coexists with peace and prosperity, and the implication of the visions and measures will be further elaborated in the following ‘World Leaders’ Session.

아시아는 세계경제를 견인하는 성장 엔진으로 부상하였지만, 영토 분쟁, 역사 갈등, 북핵 위기 등으로 역내 평화와 안보는 계속 위협받고 있습니다. ‘아시아 패러독스’라고 불리는 이러한 현상은 ‘舊 아시아’의 잔재입니다. 개회식 기조연설을 통해 아시아·태평양 지역의 지도자들은, 성장과 번영이 평화와 안보와 함께 하는 ‘새로운 아시아’의 비전임을 밝힐 것입니다. 이들의 비전이 갖는 함의와 그 실현하는 구체적 방안들은 ‘세계지도자세션‘에서 논의됩니다.
