At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

14:00 ~ 15:20		[4-C] Approach for Northeast Asian Economic Cooperation: Korea-China Cooperation, and GTI Case\|동북아 경제 협력을 위한 접근: 한중 협력과 GTI 사례	Room C
[KNDA] Recently, there have been many troubles in Northeast Asia including North Korea's nuclear ambitions, territorial dispute, and historical issues. On the other hand, economic cooperation is being promoted to soften these troubles. GTI (Greater Tumen Initiative) is a typical case in this area that shares borders with North Korea, China, and Russia. It is a multilateral economic cooperation model trying to take a leap to international hub for logistics and industry through great sphere economic cooperation. It is also relevant to reform and opening of North Korea, strengthening growth power for South Korea, and fostering environment to reunify the divided peninsula. This session intends to discuss the failure of TRADP (Tumen River Area Development Program) that UN DP recommended in 1990s, and ideas to improve GTI . 최근 동북아시아는 북핵 문제와 더불어 영토분쟁, 역사문제 등으로 심각한 갈등을 겪고 있습니다. 반면 이러한 갈등을 완화시켜주는 경제협력도 추진되고 있습니다. 대표적으로 북한, 중국, 러시아가 국경을 맞대고 있는 대두만강 개발 계획(Greater Tumen Initiative)이 그것입니다. 이는 동북아시아 광역경제협력을 통해 국제적인 물류 및 산업중심지로의 도약을 꿈꾸는 다자간 경제협력 모델입니다. 이 계획은 북한의 개혁개방을 유도하고, 한국 경제의 새로운 성장 동력을 제공하며, 남북간의 통일기반을 조성할 수 있는 사업이라는 데 의의가 있습니다. 이에 전문가들의 토론을 통해 과거 유엔개발계획이 제시한 두만강유역개발계획(Tumen River Area Development Program)의 실패에서 교훈을 찾고 앞으로의 개선 방향에 대해 논의하는 자리를 마련하고자 합니다.
