FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

Sustainable development for current and future generation is hard to achieve without balanced growth and progress in every three aspect: economy, society and environment. Although international society stressed this issue through Rio+20 United Nations Conference in 2012, the situation of environmental problem is getting worse because of our careless use of water, food, and energy which are our limited, yet, core resources for human beings and earth today and in the future. Energy depletion and shortage of food and water cause hindrance of economic development which affects the most damage on socially vulnerable class. Despite this feature, the issue of water, food and energy is hard to be solved individually due to enormous demand of itself and its possibility of nexus that one resource can be used with other resources. Therefore, this session provides an opportunity to achieve our better understanding in water, food, and energy issue with basic principles for integrated approaches further, and search for specific action plans.

경제, 사회, 환경의 3대 축의 균형적인 성장과 발전이 없이는 현재와 미래 세대 모두를 위한 지속가능발전이 불가능합니다. 하지만 제한된 자원인 물ㆍ식량ㆍ에너지의 무분별한 소비로 환경이 악화되고 있고, 또한 에너지 고갈 및 식량ㆍ물 부족은 경제성장을 저해하며, 이는 사회적 취약계층에게 피해를 주며 지속가능한 발전의 기반을 잠식하게 됩니다. 한편, 물ㆍ식량ㆍ에너지는 그 자체에 대한 절대적 수요가 매우 클 뿐만 아니라 하나의 자원이 다른 자원생산에 이용되는 상호 연계성(nexus)으로 인해 개별적으로는 해결이 매우 어려운 상황입니다. 따라서 이러한 문제들에 대한 통합적 접근을 통해서만 지속가능한 해결책이 도출될 수 있습니다. 이번 세션이, 물ㆍ식량ㆍ에너지에 대한 통합적 접근을 위한 기본 원칙과 주요 내용에 대해 이해를 같이하고 구체적 이행 방안을 모색하는 기회가 되기를 바랍니다.
