FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

Economic capacities, trade and people-to-people exchanges in East Asia are steadily growing. Rich human resources, advanced technologies and unique cultures provide another reservoir of the unlimited potential of the region. To maximize this potential, East Asian states need to overcome the “Asia paradox” and discuss ways to share vision for the future of the region. Against this backdrop, the “Regional Cooperation and Middle Power Diplomacy for Building a New Asia” session will provide a venue for exchanging valuable opinions about the future of the region, and seek middle powers’ role as an honest broker and facilitator in building a New Asia.

동아시아 지역은 역내 교역 및 인적 교류를 비롯한 경제역량이 지속적으로 증대하고 있으며, 풍부한 인적 자원과 첨단기술, 고유 문화와 같은 잠재력을 갖고 있습니다. 이러한 동아시아의 역량을 극대화하기 위해서는 아시아 패러독스에서 벗어나 이 지역의 발전적 미래에 대한 비전을 함께 논의하는 것이 필요합니다. 이에 ‘신 아시아 실현을 위한 지역협력과 중견국 외교’ 세션에서는 △동아시아의 미래 비전을 공유하고 △협력의 촉진자·매개자로서의 역할이 기대되는 중견국의 지역협력 방안을 논의함으로써 정책적 함의를 도출하고 전문가들의 이해를 증진시키고자 합니다.
