[Ministry of Foreign Affairs 외교부] Soft power has become increasingly influential in the international community. In particular, as a middle power, Korea needs to utilize soft power strategically and effectively to win understanding and support from the international community for its diplomatic policies and situation on the Korean peninsula. Against this backdrop, this session will analyze cases of public diplomacy of other major nations to examine the implications of the direction and strategy for Korea’s public diplomacy. We will particularly discuss ways to contribute to peace in the Korean peninsula, in Northeast Asia and in the international community through public diplomacy. In short, we will identify the role of public diplomacy of Korea to promote peace in consideration of various factors such as the political situation on the Korean peninsula, structural environment in Northeast Asia, Korea’s contributive role in the international community and the fourth industrial revolution and digitalization. 국제사회에서 소프트파워의 영향력이 점증하고 있다. 특히 중견국가로서 한국의 외교정책 및 한반도 상황에 대한 국제사회의 이해와 지지 확보를 위해 한국은 소프트파워를 전략적이고 효율적으로 활용할 필요가 있다. 이 세션에서는 여타 주요 국가들의 공공외교 사례를 분석하여 한국 공공외교의 방향성과 전략에 주는 시사점을 찾아보고, 특히 공공외교를 통해 한반도, 동북아, 세계 평화에 기여할 수 있는 방안에 대해 논의한다. 구체적으로 ▴한반도의 정치적 상황, ▴동북아내 구조적 환경, ▴국제사회에서의 기여국가 역할, ▴4차 산업혁명 및 디지털화 등 다양한 요소를 고려하여 한국 공공외교가 평화 증진을 위해 어떤 역할을 할 수 있을지 모색한다.
