[Jeju Peace Institute 제주평화연구원]<BR><BR>Since the launching of new President in US, the global condition after 2017 is expected to be more challenging in the viewpoint of liberalism and regionalism. On this premise, the panel asks two questions: Firstly, populism, nationalism and skepticism are threatening liberalism. Is this phenomenon a sign of the limits of liberalism?; secondly, what is the way of regionalism in Asia under the crisis of liberalism? Over the past time, regionalism and liberalism have accumulated their theories in the academia and the practices, and EU and ASEAN have constructed successful stories in the context of those. Beyond the crisis, we would like to explore, how regionalism will respond the challenges in a new context, and what regionalism in Asia will look like.<BR><BR>2017년 이후의 세계 정세는 그 어느 때보다 자유주의에 대한 도전과 지역주의의 침체 속에서 도전과 변화가 예상된다. 이런 전제에서 이 패널은 두 가지 질문을 던진다. 우선, “포퓰리즘, 민족주의, 회의주의, 장벽세우기 등이 자유주의를 위협하고 있다. 이러한 현상은 자유주의의 한계를 보여주는 징후인가?”를 묻는다. 이어서, “자유주의의 위기가 도래한 이 시대에 과연 아시아의 지역주의는 어떤 길로 나아갈 것인가?”를 질문한다. 그 동안 지역주의와 자유주의는 서로 긴장과 협력을 병행하는 가운데 이론을 축적해 왔으며, EU와 ASEAN은 그 중에서도 성공적인 실천사례였다. 그렇다면 위기에 처한 자유주의를 넘어 지역주의가 새로운 맥락에서 현실의 도전에 대응할 수 있을지, 아시아의 지역주의는 어떤 모습을 그리게 될지 토론하고 전망해 본다.
