[Korea National Diplomacy Academy 국립외교원]<BR><BR>North Korea has accelerated its nuclear threat through numerous missile launches and nuclear tests in recent years. In fact, the regime has been taking a trajectory to become a nuclear power. It is expected that the United States under the Trump administration will pursue hawkish North Korea policy. Especially, since US Secretary of Defense James Mattis visited Korea last February, the administration has shown its will to take a strong stance against North Korea and to reinforce KORUS alliance through powerful extended deterrence. Against this backdrop, the neighboring countries are taking different directions in terms of their policies toward the regime, and the attention is on how cooperation and conflicts surrounding the resolution of North Korean issues will unfold.<BR><BR>북한은 최근 몇 년간 미사일 발사 및 핵 실험을 강행 하며 핵 위협을 가속화하고 있다. 사실상 핵 보유국 지위 달성을 위한 행보를 추진 중이라 할 수 있다. 이런 상황에서 미국 트럼프 정부는 강경한 대북정책 기조를 보일 것으로 예상된다. 특히 2월 매티스 국방장관 방한 후 미국을 북한 위협에 강력하게 대처한다는 의지를 보였으며 강한 확장억지력 제공을 통해 한미동맹을 더욱 강화하겠다는 의지를 표명했다. 이러한 가운데 주변국들의 대북정책은 서로 다른 방향성을 가지고 있어, 추후 북한 문제 해결을 둘러싼 협력 및 갈등 상황이 어떻게 전개될 지가 초미 의 관심사다.
