228년전 제주도민을 살린 김만덕의 나눔은 단순한 부의 사회환원이 아니라 이웃들과의 공존(共存)을 선택한 결과이다. 함께 사는 인간의 공존성은 다른 이들의 평화와 복지, 자유, 기쁨을 심화·확대시키는 데서 실현된다. 인류가 궁극적으로 지향하는 평화는 곧 공존이다.
21세기에도 빈곤퇴치는 전지구적 과제다. 2015년 UN총회에서 채택된‘SDG(지속가능발전목표)’의 첫번째 목표가 모든 형태의 빈곤 종식이며, 두번째 목표는 굶주림의 종결이다. 포스트코로나 대전환시대 빈곤퇴치는 인류의 당면 과제다.
이제 김만덕정신의 세계화는 필수과제이다. 김만덕국제상을 제정해 전지구적 빈곤퇴치를 위한 활동에 헌신한 인물이나 단체, 사회환원을 통해 노블리스오블 리주를 실천한 인물 또는 기업을 선정해 시상하는 것을 통해 빈곤퇴치활동의 국제적인 네트워크를 형성하고자한다.

The sharing of Kim Man-duk, who saved Jeju-do people 228 years ago, is the result of choosing coexistence with neighbors rather than simply subsidizing wealth. The coexistence of human beings living together is realized in expanding and expanding the puncture, welfare, freedom and joy of others. Peace that mankind ultimately aims for is coexistence.
In the 21st century, eradicating poverty is a global challenge. The first goal of the SDG (Sustainable Developmental Goals) adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015 is all forms of poverty ending, the second goal is the end of hunger. In the post-Corona era, poverty eradication is a challenge for mankind, Globalization of Kim Man-duk spirit is now a must. We will enact Kim Man-duk Global Awards to select and award a person or corporation that has practiced Nobless Oblig Obligation through a person, group dedicated to the efforts to eradicate the global poverty era, and to form an international network of poverty eradicating activities.
