Kuyoun Chung is an assistant professor in the political science department at the Kangwon National University, Republic of Korea. She has served as a member of the policy advisory committee of the Ministry of Unification, Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control, as well as the National Unification Advisory Council.

Previously, she was a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles(2011-2012), visiting professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (2014-2015), policy advisor to the Vice President to the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation (2015), and research fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification (2015-2018). Her research focuses on American foreign policy, security issues in the Asia-pacific region, and development cooperation. Her recent publication includes an article “Geopolitics and A Realist Turn of US Foreign Policy toward North Korea,” and a co-edited book <Precarious Equilibrium: The Regional Order at the Root of the Korean Nuclear Crisis>.


현재 강원대학교 정치외교학과 조교수로 재직 중인 정구연 교수는 캘리포니아 대학 로스앤젤레스 (UCLA)에서 정치학 박사학위를 취득하였다. 졸업후 동 대학교 강사로 재직하였으며(2011-2012), 이후 국립외교원 미주연구부 객원교수 (2014-2015), 통일연구원 국제전략연구실 연구위원(2015-2017)으로 근무하였다. 통일부 정책자문위원, 민주평통자문위원, 통일교육위원, 한국원자력통제기술원 전문가위원회 위원 등으로 활동하며, 현재는 강원대학교 통일강원연구원 통일교육지원센터장을 겸임하고 있다.
주요 연구 분야는 미국 대외정책과 아시아-태평양 안보현안, 개발협력으로, 최근의 연구업적은 논문인 “Geopolitics and A Realist Turn of US Foreign Policy Toward North Korea” 와 공동편집 단행본인 <Precarious Equilibrium: The Regional Order at the Root of the Korean Nuclear Crisis> 가 있다. 최근의 연구는 미국의 동맹안정성과 해양안보, 그리고 소다자주의 외교디자인과 대북개발협력의 주제를 중심으로 진행되고 있다.
