Dr. Hyung-Gon Jeong is the former Vice President of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and a senior research fellow at the institute. He currently serves in the capacity of Special Senior Research Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (additional position) and was a consultant at the Asia Development Bank (ADB). He has been working as a member of the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation for Korea, Vice President of the North East Asia Economic Association of Korea, and a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Korea Fair Trade Commission. He also serves as an advisor at the Committee of Free Economic Zone of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Dr. Jeong’s research area is international economics including trade and investment, transition economy and North Korean economy and he has published many refereed journal articles, books and working papers on these topics. He participated in the Korea-China-Japan FTA Joint Research Project as a research fellow from 2010 to 2011, and conducted joint research projects with IDE-JETRO (Japan) and DRC (China) from 2006 to 2010. He also served as a Consultant of Special Economic Zone for the governments of Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan as part of Korean knowledge-sharing projects. Before joining the KIEP in 2006, Dr. Jeong was Director General of the Office of Strategic Planning at the National Security Council (NSC), the Blue House. Dr. Jeong graduated from the University of Bonn and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cologne. 정형곤 박사는 대외경제정책정책연구원 부원장을 역임했고 현재는 선임연구위원으로 재직하고 있다. 2017년부터 2020년까지 중국 사회과학원(CASS) 특임선임연구위원을 겸직하고 있고, 아시아개발은행(Asia Development Bank)의 컨설턴트를 역임했다. 현재 한국동북아경제학회 부회장을 맡고 있으며 공정거래위원회, 관세청 관세발전위원회, 산업통상자원부 경제자유구역위원회 자문위원, 기획재정부 예산집행심의위원회 위원 등으로 활동하고 있다.
주요 연구 분야는 무역 및 투자를 포함한 국제경제, 북한경제를 포함한 동북아 경제협력, 동유럽 체제전환 연구이다. 동북아 경제협력 연구와 관련해서는 한중일 FTA 산관학 공동연구단원으로 활동해 왔고, 그 밖에도 일본의 IDE-JETRO, 중국의 DRC와도 오랫동안 공동연구를 진행해 왔다. 또한 경제자유구역 등 우리나라의 투자환경 개선 관련 연구도 수행하고 있으며, 지식공유사업의 일환으로 추진되고 있는 KSP 사업에 참여하여 우즈베키스탄, 카자흐스탄, 베트남 정부의 경제특구 조성 및 운영과 관련하여 컨설팅을 한바 있다. 정형곤 박사는 청와대 국가안전보장회의(NSC) 전략기획실 선임행정관으로 근무한바 있다. 정박사는 독일 본(Bonn)대학교에서 경제학부를 졸업하고 쾰른대학교에서 경제학 박사학위를 취득하였고, Johns Hopkins University의 국제관계대학원(SAIS)에서 Fulbright Scholar로 활동하였다. hgjeong@kiep.go.kr
