Yoshihide SOEYA is Professor of political science and international relations at the Faculty of Law of Keio University. He served as the Director of the Institute of East Asian Studies of the same university for six years until September 2013. Most recently, Dr. Soeya was a Japan Scholar of the Woodrow Wilson Center, in Washington D.C. from September 2013 to January 2014, and a Korea Foundation Fellow affiliated with the ASAN Institute in Seoul in March-May 2014.
His areas of interest are politics and security in East Asia, and Japanese diplomacy and its external relations. Dr. Soeya received Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1987, majoring in world politics.

Dr. Soeya currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Japan Association of International Studies, the Japan Association of Asian Studies, the International House of Japan, and the International Council of the Asia Society in New York.
Previously, he was a member of the Council of Defense Facilities of MOD (2000-2009) and the Advisory Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-2013). He also served, in 1999-2000, as a member of the “Prime Minister's Commission on Japan's Goals in the 21st Century,” and, in 2010, of “the Council on Security and Defense Capabilities in the New Era,” both in the Prime Minister’s Office.

소에야 요시히데는 게이오기주쿠 대학 법학부 국제관계 및 정치외교학 교수로 재임 중이다. 그는 2013년 9월까지 6년간 본 대학의 동아시아연구재단 소장을 지냈다. 또한 2013년 9월부터 2014년 1월까지는 워싱턴 D.C 소재의 우드로 윌슨 센터에서 일본 학자로, 2014년 3-5월에는 서울 아산재단과 제휴한 한국국제교류재단의 연구원으로 활동했다. 소에야 박사의 주 관심분야는 동아시아 정치 및 안보와 일본의 외교, 국제관계이다. 그는 1987년 미시건 대학교에서 세계정치 전공으로 박사학위를 수여받았다.

현재 국제지역학 일본협회, 아시아연구 일본 협회, 일본 인터내셔널하우스 그리고 뉴욕 소재의 아시아소사이어티 국제위원회 이사회에서 활동 중이다. 과거에는 국방부 방위시설 위원회 멤버(2000-2009), 외무부 고문단(2003-2013)을 역임하였다. 더불어, 1999-2000년에는 수상 직속 21세기 일본구상 위원회에서, 2010년에는 새 시대 안보 및 방위력 위원회에서 근무하였다.
