SOUTHCOTT Darren 대런 사우스콧
	Jeju National University 제주대학교 Visiting Professor 초빙교수 From the UK, Mr. Southcott is a Ph.D candidate in the Geography Department, University of Leicester, specializing in Jeju environmental policy. He received an MSc in Education from the University of London South Bank in 2012 and an MA in Human Rights from the University of London in 2011. Mr. Southcott has lived on Jeju for almost 8 years after first moving to the island in 2007. Mr. Southcott gave a TEDx talk last year on preserving Jeju’s heritage as it navigates the challenges of globalisation. Mr. Southcott is a member of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s Jeju Peace Cooperation Division and he advises Global Inner Peace, Jeju’s only international NGO, on community projects including global citizenship initiatives. He has also published research into South Korea’s rehabilitation program for North Korean new settlers. Mr. Southcott writes about local culture and the environment for The Jeju Weekly newspaper, the island’s only English-language newspaper, where he was the editor-in-chief for over 3 years. He is now a visiting professor at Jeju National University of Education and between 2011 and 2012 he was the president of the Jeju chapter of the Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (KOTESOL). In 2010 he wrote a position paper on education policy for the Prime Minister’s Office of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and in 2012 one of his community education projects with Sao Sary Foundation, Cambodia, was funded by the US Embassy in Bangkok. 영국 출신의 사우스코트 객원교수는 영국 레스터대학교 지리학과 박사과정에 있으며, 제주환경정책을 전공하고 있다. 그는 2012년 런던 사우스 뱅크 대학교에서 교육학으로 이학석사학위를 받았고, 2011년 런던 대학교에서 인권문제 전공으로 문학석사학위를 받았다. 사우스코트 교수는 2007년 제주에 이주한 이후 거의 8년간 제주에 거주해왔다. 그는 작년에 테드엑스(TEDx)에서 세계화라는 도전을 향하여 가는 과정에서 제주의 유산을 어떻게 보존할 것인가에 대하여 발표하기도 하였다. 사우스코트 교수는 제주특별자치도의 제주평화협력위원회 위원이며, 제주의 유일한 국제 엔지오인 제주 이너 피스에 글로벌시민운동을 포함한 공동체 프로젝트에 대하여 자문하고 있다. 그는 또한 북한 새터민들을 위한 남한 사회복귀 프로그램에 대한 연구를 발표하기도 하였다. 사우스코트 교수는 도내 유일한 영어 신문인 제주 위클리에 지역 문화와 환경에 대하여 기고하고 있으며, 3여년에 걸쳐 이 신문의 편집장을 역임하기도 하였다. 현재는 제주대학교 교육대학 객원 교수로 재직하고 있으며, 2011년과 2012년에 대한영어교육학회(KOTESOL) 제주지부 회장을 역임했다. 2010년에 라오스 국무총리실을 위하여 교육정책에 관한 정책 지침서를 썼으며, 2012년에는 그가 관여하고 있는 캄보디아의 사오 사리(Sao Sary) 재단과의 지역공동체 교육프로젝트 중의 하나가 방콕주재 미국 대사관의 자금지원을 받았다.
