He was a professor of sociology at Jeju National University (South Korea) from 1981 to February 2012, and served as teaching professor at University of Sheffield (United Kingdom) in 2000, the president of Asia-Pacific Sociological Association from 2002 to 2004, , and a delegate of South Korean Government to UNFCCC from 2003 to 2004. He published 13 books including Environmental Sociology. <BR><BR>정대연은 고려대학교에서 사회학 학사와 석사를 취득하고, 호주 Queensland대학교에서 환경사회학 전공으로 박사학위를 취득하였다. 그는 1981년부터 2012년 2월까지 제주대학교 사회학 교수(1981년 – 2012년 2월), 영국 Sheffield대학교 강의교수(2000년), 아시아-태평양사회학회 회장(2002년 - 2004년), 유엔기후변화 당사국 총회 한국정부 대표(2003년 – 2004년)를 역임하였다. 그는 환경사회학을 포함하여 10권의 저서를 출판하였다.
