Prof. Young-Pyo Seo studied Korean History at Seoul National University, and then received his MA and PhD degrees in sociology from the University of Essex, UK. He had worked for the Democracy Institute of the Sungkonghoe University as a research professor from 2008-2011. Since 2012 he has been teaching at the Sociology Department of the Jeju National University. The title of PhD thesis was “The Theoretical Reflections on the Radical Greater London Council (1981-6) and Its Implication for the British New Left.” His research interests began with British new left movement and local politics, and, after finishing the thesis, developed into environmental sociology. He published many academic papers on environmental sociology, urban sociology, social theory, political sociology, and British politics.
<BR><BR>서영표는 서울대학교에서 국사학을 공부한 후 영국의 에식스대학에서 사회학 석사, 박사 학위를 받았다. 2008년에서 2011년까지 성공회대학교 민주주의연구소에서 연구교수로 일했다. 2012년부터 제주대학교 사회학과에서 가르치고 있다. 박사학위의 주제는 영국의 신좌파와 지역정치로 “급진적 런던광역시의회 (1981-6)에 대한 검토와 영국 신좌파 운동에 가지는 함의”라는 제목으로 제출되었다. 그의 연구관심은 영국 신좌파운동과 지역정치에서 시작되었지만 학위논문을 완성한 후 환경 사회학으로 발전되었다. 환경사회학, 도시사회학, 사회이론, 정치사회학, 영국 정치에 대한 다수의 논문을 발표했다.
