Ambassador Park Joon-woo, Chairman of The Sejong Institute and former Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, is a career diplomat who served 33 years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
He served as Ambassador to the European Union and to Singapore. His overseas assignments include Washington, D.C., Tokyo, Beijing and Helsinki. During his tenure as Ambassador in Brussels, Korea and EU upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership following the conclusion of new Framework Agreement and Free Trade Agreement in 2010. He also contributed to the establishment of Korea-NATO partnership.

Back home, he was appointed as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination 2006-2008. He worked for Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon as Senior Advisor 2005-2006. He served twice at the Presidential Office for Foreign and Security Affairs.
Since he studied at Keio University, 1990-1991, he was closely involved in Korea-Japan relations as head of political section of the Korean Embassy in Tokyo, Director for Japanese Affairs, Deputy DG and Director-General for Asia-Pacific Affairs of the Korean Foreign Ministry. He negotiated 1998 Joint Declaration for Korea-Japan Partnership between President Kim Dae-joong and Prime Minister Obuchi Keijo. He carried out three Korea-Japan Shuttle Summits, 2004-2005, as Director-General. During the period, he also carried out negotiations against China to resolve the issues of China’s Northeast History Project and North Korean refugees.

After retirement in July 2011, he was appointed as Koret Fellow of the Walter Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, USA, teaching a graduate class on “Korean Foreign Policy in Transition: Korea’s Bilateral Relations with Her Major Neighboring Countries” In September 2012, he was appointed as Visiting Professor at Yonsei University’s Institute for State Governance.

August 2013-June 2014, Ambassador Park was appointed as President Park Geun-hye’s Senior Secretary for Political Affairs. He now serves as Chairman of The Sejong Institute, Korea’s leading independent think-tank, since February 2015.
<BR><BR>박준우 대사(세종재단 이사장, 전 대통령 정무수석)은 33년간 외교부에서 근무한 직업 외교관이다.

2008-2011간 주EU대사(벨기에, 룩셈부르그 겸임)와 2006 주 싱가포르 대사를 역임했으며 주 미국, 주 일본, 주 중국, 주 핀란드 대사관에서 근무하였다. 주EU대사 재임 중 한-EU 기본 협정과 자유무역협정 체결을 통해 양자 관계를 전략적 동반자 관계로 격상하는데 기여하였으며, NATO와의 협력관계 설정과 한국의 NATO-ISAF 참여를 통해 이를 발전시키는데 기여하였다.

본부에서는 외교통상부 기획조정실장과 아태국장, 장관특별보좌관(반기문 장관)을 역임하였으며, 청와대 정무수석실과 외교안보 수석실에서 행정관과 선임국장으로 근무하였다.

1990년 일본 게이오 대학에서 연수한 이래 주일 대사관 정무과장, 본부 동북아 1과장, 아태국 심의관, 국장을 역임하면서 대일 외교의 실무를 오랫동안 담당하였으며, 1998. 10 월의 한일 파트너쉽 공동선언, 한일 신 어업협정 체결, 2004-5 3차례의 한일 셔틀 정상회담 등의 업무를 수행하였다. 아태국장 재직시 중국의 동북공정과 관련한 교섭을 담당하여 원만한 타결을 이끌어 냈으며 탈북자 문제 해결 등 한중관계의 제반 현안 해결에도 기여하였다.

2011.7 퇴임후 2011.9-2012.7간 미국 스탠포드 대학에서 “전환기의 한국 외교정책-주요 양자관계”에 관해 강의를 하였다. 2012.9-2013.8간 연세대 국가관리연구원의 객원교수로 강의와 각종 학술회의에 참가하면서 동북아 정세와 한일관계, 동아시아 영토분쟁, 독도 문제 등에 관해 발표하였다.

2013.8-2014.6 간 대통령 정무수석비서관으로 임명되어 최초의 외교관 출신 정무수석 비서관으로서 한국정치문화 발전을 위해 노력하였다. 2015.2 부터 세종연구소의 이사장으로 재직 중이다.
