현재 한국과학기술원(KAIST) 안보융합연구소 교수, 카네기 국제평화재단 선임연구원, 런던 국제전략연구소(IISS) 국제자문위원회 의장으로 재직 중이다. 2018년 카네기와 2021년 KAIST에 합류하기 전 연세대학교 국제대학원에서 약 20년간 교수로 재직하였다. 랜드 연구소(RAND) 정책분석가(1995~1998), 세종연구소 연구원(서울, 1989- 1994), 일본 국방연구원 방문연구원(도쿄, 1994~1995), 일본 국립정책연구소 방문교수(도쿄, 2004-2005), 싱가포르 국 립대학교 리콴유 공공정책대학원 방문교수(2005-2007)로도 활동하였다. 또한 1990년대 후반부터 대통령 외교정책자문회의 위원(2009-2011)과 국가안보 관 련 부처의 자문위원을 역임하고 외교부 국제안보대사(2010–2011), 국가안보문 제담당대사(2013-2016)를 지낸 바 있다. 주요 저서로는 ‘The Hermit King: The Dangerous Game of Kim Jong Un’, ‘Fault Lines in a Rising Asia’ 등이 있다. 연세대학교에서 정치학 학사, 터프츠대학교 플레처법률외교대학원에서 국제정 치 석사 및 박사학위를 받았다.

Chung Min Lee is a University Professor at the Institute of Security Convergence, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Senior Fellow (Asia Program) at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C., and Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. Prior to joining Carnegie in 2018 and KAIST in 2021, he taught for nearly 20 years at the Graduate School of International Studies, Yonsei University, in Seoul, and spent a decade at leading think tanks and universities in Asia and the United States. He was a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation (1995-1998), a research fellow at the Sejong Institute (Seoul, 1989-1994), visiting fellow at the National Institute for Defense Studies (Tokyo, 1994-1995), visiting professor at the National Research Institute for Policy Studies (Tokyo, 2004-2005), and a visiting professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (2005-2007). Lee served as the ROK’s Ambassador for National Security Affairs (2013- 2016) and Ambassador for International Security Affairs (2010-2011). He also served as a member of the Presidential Foreign Policy Advisory Council (2009-2011) and as an advisor to all national security-related ministries and agencies since the late 1990s. Lee received his BA in political science from Yonsei University (1982) and his M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (1988).
